Grant awards made to the SCCLL membership in 2009 totaled $7,950. *Funded out of the Institute for Court Management Fund, established by Marcia Koslov in 2000, with proceeds originating from receipt of a 1994 West Excellence in Law Librarianship Award. Court Solution Conferences are not routinely held every year, and as of June 17, 2009, the National Center for State Courts advised the Grants Committee chair that it had not yet been determined that one would be held 2009. Award Recipients A grant to attend the Court Solutions Conference was awarded to Charles R. Dyer of Charles R. Dyer Consulting, who was the sole applicant. The committee received two applications for the Equal Justice Conference, and awarded Melissa Barr of Cuyahoga County Public Library and Larry Meyer of the Law Library for San Bernardino County, grants of $800 each. The committee received eleven applications for the five available grants of $950 each to attend the ЬЧаФЪгЦЕ Annual Meeting. After careful consideration of each applicant in light of the criteria, and through discussions via email, the Committee notified five members that they are grant recipients. They are: Mary Cheney, Utah State Law Library; Susan Falk, Alaska State Court Law Library; Susan Lupton, State Law Library of Montana; Sandra Marz, Washoe County Law Library; and Cynthia Matano, California Department of Justice. Proposed Change in Criteria The increase in applicants for SCCLL SIS grants led the Committee to review the grant criteria in order to make awards open to as many of our members as possible. In that regard, the committee proposes that the following changes in Criteria # 6: Membership in State, Court & County SIS is a prerequisite to receiving a grant. Grants should be made on the basis of: Financial need Proven potential ability Promise of future usefulness and permanence in the law library profession Grants may be withdrawn for sufficient cause by unanimous action of the Committee. Should circumstances prevent use of the grant by the recipient, the award is to be handled at the discretion of the Committee. Recipient is required to provide receipts of expenses, sent to the Committee chair, within a week of the conference conclusion and repay any surplus over actual expenses. Only one award per year will be made to any individual. First time applicants will take priority over previous recipients. However, an award may be presented to a previous recipient if there are fewer qualified applicants than awards available. Replace with: First time applicants will take priority over previous recipients.  Individuals who have received an SCCLL grant in the current or previous two Association fiscal years will not be eligible.  However, an award may be presented to a previous recipient if there are fewer qualified applicants than awards available. All members of SCCLL are eligible regardless of number of years of membership. Application Process SCCLL SIS members were notified of the available grants, application procedures, and deadlines by announcement in the member listserv and on the SCCLL website. The application process was changed so that applicants were instructed to submit an electronic copy of the grant application through a link from the SCCLL Grants Committee web page. Applicants are also required to submit via email to the Grants Committee chair a PDF version of one signed letter of recommendation. The new application procedure was suggested by the 2008 Grants Committee chair, and it greatly increased the efficiency of distributing applicant information to all committee members in a timely fashion. Acknowledgments The 2009 Grants Committee is grateful for the generous membership support of the Silent Auction, as well as for the hard work of the Silent Auction Committee, Barbara Fritschel, chair, and Kevin Cook. It is through the Silent Auction that SCCLL SIS is able to provide funds for the Equal Justice Conference and ЬЧаФЪгЦЕ Annual Meeting awards. The Grants Committee commends Marcia Koslov for her generosity in making the Institute for Court Management Fund available to the membership to attend Court Solutions Conferences. The Grants Committee chair recognizes and appreciates the work of committee members throughout this past year.
