ALL-SIS Committee Charges

Awards

View Committee

  • Annually solicit nominations for all current grants and awards being offered by ALL-SIS, other than Research Grants (see Research & Scholarship Committee). In addition to the solicitation of nominations, Awards Committee members may support the nominations process by nominating eligible ALL-SIS members for these awards.
  • Solicit and award grants for ÌÇÐÄÊÓÆµâ€™s Management Institute and Leadership Academy as they occur.
  • Arrange awards ceremony events with the assistance of the Local Arrangements Liaison for the ALL-SIS Reception.
  • After notifying the ALL-SIS Executive Board, publicly announce the winners of all awards and grants in the ALL-SIS Newsletter, ALL-SIS website, on relevant eGroups and listservs, and/or other methods as may seem best. Timely submit award recipient information to ÌÇÐÄÊÓÆµ for inclusion in Annual Meeting Awards Brochure.
  • Other projects the Committee or the ALL-SIS Executive Board has identified as necessary.
  • Submit one column to the ALL-SIS Newsletter describing the work of the committee during the current year.

Bylaws

  • Review the ALL-SIS Bylaws and recommend any changes to the Executive Board.

Collection Development

  • Develop and maintain collection development information for the ALL-SIS website.
  • Continue to identify and evaluate commonly used tools for selections.
  • Identify and evaluate tools for collection evaluation.
  • Plan and conduct Collection Development Roundtable.
  • Explore how e-resources are impacting collection development.
  • Explore relationship between collection development and ILL.
  • Explore developing a foreign vendors list (partnering with FCIL-SIS and/or TS-SIS).

Continuing Education

View Committee

Purpose: The purpose of this Committee is to promote, provide, and further continuing education related to academic law libraries, outside of the ÌÇÐÄÊÓÆµ annual meeting. To that end, the Committee will:

  • With ALL-SIS Executive Board approval, design, create, sponsor, or facilitate inclusive continuing education opportunities, such as programs or discussions, to be held outside of the ÌÇÐÄÊÓÆµ Annual Meeting;
  • The Committee may identify or develop continuing education opportunities requiring funding support and, with Board approval, may submit proposal to the ÌÇÐÄÊÓÆµ/Bloomberg Continuing Education Grants Program;
  • Collaborate with committees, SISs, Chapters, Caucuses, or other groups as needed;
  • Submit one column to the ALL-SIS Newsletter describing the work of the Committee during the current year; and
  • Complete other projects as identified by the Committee or the ALL-SIS Executive Board.

Continuing Status/Tenure

  • Explore creating guidelines and metrics for libraries and librarians to display value
  • Begin to draft a survey that aggregates and distributes information about the professional status of academic law librarians

Faculty Services

View Committee

  • Develop and maintain information on faculty services for the ALL-SIS website.
  • Plan and conduct “ALL-SIS Faculty Services Survey” every three years and share results on the range of faculty services provided by academic law libraries.
  • Plan and conduct “4 Conversations in 4 Days” discussion on the ALL-SIS discussion board.
  • Other programming and projects the Committee or the ALL-SIS Executive Board has identified as necessary such as an Annual Meeting Roundtable or a Coffee Chat.

Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (JEDI)

View Committee

Purpose: The Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion (JEDI) Committee shall review justice, diversity, inclusion, and equity efforts within ALL-SIS. The committee shall investigate ways that academic law librarianship can better promote and foster diversity, equity, and inclusion. Report findings and recommend actions to the Board(s).

  • Continually reexamine and expand the definition of diversity with the goal of increasing inclusion
  • Offer assistance to the ALL-SIS board, committees, and programs to ensure diverse representation and perspectives
  • Investigate and promote pipeline initiatives for entry into academic law librarianship
  • Create and maintain archive of JEDI-related resources specific to ALL-SIS, academic law libraries, and law schools
  • Advocate for JEDI-related changes within ALL-SIS, ÌÇÐÄÊÓÆµ, and other organizations
  • Collaborate and communicate with established ÌÇÐÄÊÓÆµ groups and/or organizations and individuals outside of ÌÇÐÄÊÓÆµ dedicated to diversity and equity concerns, for recruitment, programming, or other purposes
  • Coordinate with ALL-SIS, ÌÇÐÄÊÓÆµ, and other organizations to ensure that comprehensive and coordinated JEDI-focused programming is offered
  • Complete other projects as identified by the Committee or the ALL-SIS Executive Board
  • Submit an article to the ALL-SIS Newsletter describing the work of the committee during the current year.

Legal Research & Sourcebook

View Committee

  • Plan and conduct Legal Research Roundtable at the Annual Meeting.
  • Provide a summary of each Legal Research Roundtable for the committee website.
  • Administer a survey to obtain data on how Legal Research Programs are taught in law school. Maintain longitudinal data on website so that trends can be identified.
  • Develop and maintain the Sourcebook for Teaching Legal Research on the ALL-SIS website.
  • Work with Public Relations Committee to publicize the Sourcebook.
  • Other projects the Committee or the ALL-SIS Executive Board has identified as necessary.

Library Marketing and Outreach

  • Maintain and update the Marketing Tool Kit.
  • Submit appropriate articles focused on marketing and outreach for the ALL-SIS Newsletter and ÌÇÐÄÊÓÆµ Spectrum.

  • Conduct regular outreach to the ALL-SIS Executive Board and other committees as warranted.

Local Arrangements

View Committee

  • Make arrangements for Annual Meeting events, including arrangements for location, menu, speakers/programming, AV, signage and promotion, for the following events:
    • the ALL-SIS Reception, working with the Board and sponsor, and potential off-site location; and working with Awards Committee to arrange for awards ceremony as part of Reception as appropriate
    • ALL-SIS Directors’ Breakfast
    • ALL-SIS Middle Manager’s Breakfast
    • [Note: All-Member Breakfast & Business Meeting, no longer held in person during Annual Meeting, has been removed from the charge]
  • Work with Board and Newsletter Editor to promote ALL-SIS events at Conference.

  • Collect and report to Board, for each of above events, data on registration/ticket purchases; actual attendance; final costs for menu, location, AV, and signage; and sponsorship.

Membership

  • Develop, maintain, and provide welcoming materials to new members of ALL-SIS to help introduce them to the organization and its resources.
  • Develop and maintain recruitment information on the benefits of membership to post on the ALL-SIS website and for external distribution.
  • Gather feedback from new members to assess their experience and identify areas for improvement in the committee’s efforts.

Newsletter

  • Identify areas to be covered in newsletter.

Programs

  • Provide feedback and suggestions for members’ program (and workshop) proposals for the Annual Meeting.
  • Develop and submit the section-sponsored program proposal for the Annual Meeting.
  • Work with program coordinators to meet ÌÇÐÄÊÓÆµ deadlines.
  • Promote programs to membership on My Communities listserv and by working with the Newsletter Editor.

Public Relations & Marketing Committee

  • Create and maintain Public Relations and Marketing materials that promote the work of ALL-SIS (including the ALL-SIS new member brochure and the exhibits for the CONELL Marketplace and the Annual Meeting Exhibit Hall).
  • Solicit news from ALL-SIS officers and committees throughout the year.
  • Maintain a social media policy in tandem with the ÌÇÐÄÊÓÆµ Social Media policy; maintain a plan for managing and posting to all ALL-SIS Social Media platforms throughout the year and during the Annual Meeting.
  • Submit ALL-SIS news for each issue of the ÌÇÐÄÊÓÆµ Spectrum (including information about awards, election results, and Annual Meeting programs, meetings, ceremonies, and receptions).

Research & Scholarship Committee

  • Assist law librarians in their scholarship activities.
  • Promote law librarian scholarship.
  • Work with Awards Committee and other relevant committees as needed to develop and award research grants.
  • Establish a scholarship and scholarly writing mentor-mentee network.

  • Identify and monitor the most significant scholarly communication issues in the legal academy and libraries.
  • Provide and maintain scholarly communications resources, such as reports, toolkits, etc.
  • Connect with other ÌÇÐÄÊÓÆµ and external groups on scholarly communication issues, and serve as a forum for information sharing and collaboration.

Student Services

  • Plan at least one engagement activity for ALL-SIS members per year.
  • Create and periodically update Student Services Toolkit and post it on the committee’s website.
  • Periodically update the sample academic student services documents on the committee’s website.
  • Submit an article to the ALL-SIS Newsletter describing the work of the committee during the current year.
