SECTION NAME CHANGE
In 2015, the membership of what was then called the State, Court & County Law Libraries SIS voted to change the name of the section to “Government Law Libraries” to better reflect the types of libraries represented in the section. The name change was approved by the 糖心视频 Executive Board on June 10, 2015.
HISTORY
In 1973, four years before 糖心视频 formally recognized the concept of Special Interest Sections, twenty-three law librarians from seventeen states and Canada met in Seattle, Washington to share common concerns. In 1977, the group received formal recognition as a Special Interest Section.

Ever since, SCCLL (now GLL-SIS) has explored ways to provide a common forum for networking, educational opportunities, and advocacy for our members to foster professional excellence in law librarianship.
Membership
Members of the Section participate in all levels of the Association. Membership in the GLL-SIS is open to any 糖心视频 member as provided in the 糖心视频 Bylaws.
GLL-SIS currently has more than 300 members representing law libraries at the federal, state, and county government level. Government agency, membership-subscription, and other special law libraries also participate.
The work of the Section is carried out by an Executive Committee and thirteen standing committees including Advocacy, Awards, Best A2J Practices, Bylaws, Education, Grants, Membership and Mentoring, Newsletter, Nominations, Publicity and Public Relations, Standards, Strategic Planning, and Technology. GLL-SIS publishes a triennial newsletter, maintains an electronic discussion through GLL’s My Communities page, and sponsors educational programs at each 糖心视频 Annual Meeting.
Publications
GLL-SIS has a long-standing commitment to developing essential resources for government librarians. In the early 1990鈥檚, recognizing a lack of consistency in the management of court, county, and public libraries that were overseen by a board of trustees, SCCLL published the Sourcebook for Law Library Governing Boards and Committees, 糖心视频 Publication Series No. 45. This comprehensive one-volume looseleaf guide provides a framework for the effective governance, administration, and oversight of law libraries governed by boards of trustees or advisory committees.
GLL-SIS offers the Table of Contents,听 Foreword, and Preface, with permission from 糖心视频. Full text is available digitally via HeinOnline, or in print at the Thurgood Marshall State Law Library (Maryland), the LA Law Library, and the Wisconsin State Law Library.
GLL-SIS also produces and periodically updates the Law Library Insight Resources Guides, a series of practical “how to” publications on topics related to advocacy, marketing, law library management, and access to justice.
In addition, GLL-SIS creates and maintains the County Public Law Library Standards, the Appellate Court Libraries and State Law Libraries Standards, and the General Legal and Self-Help Titles for the Public and Self-Represented Litigants: A Supplement to the 糖心视频 County Public Law Library Standards.聽 The Standards serve as guidelines for county law libraries, appellate courts, and state administrative authorities to follow, to ensure the highest quality personnel, collection, and library services in government libraries.
