CONGRATULATIONS TO ROSEMARIE ROGERS! – THE聽RECIPIENT OF THE 2017 FCIL SCHAFFER GRANT FOR FOREIGN LAW LIBRARIANS
Ms. Rosemarie Rogers is the 2017 FCIL Schaffer Grant for Foreign Law Librarians recipient. Congratulations! Ms. Rogers is a law librarian/Information Services Advisor at Buddle Findlay, one of New Zealand鈥檚 leading commercial and public law firms with offices in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. Her background is in special libraries, working for government departments (health, defence) and then moving into legal information at the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Law Society. Ms. Rogers has been at Buddle Findlay since 2004. In the last ten years, her responsibilities as a law firm librarian have changed dramatically. The same research and retrieval responsibilities remain but the way of delivering information has changed. She now takes part in the firm’s intranet development and has been known as the “Wiki Ninja” for her advocacy, support, and maintenance of collaborative systems.
A member of the New Zealand Law Librarians鈥� Association (NZLLA) since the early 1990s, she has been a regional convenor, and part of the organizing team for several national symposia and the joint NZLLA-ALLA (the Australian Law Librarians鈥� Association) conference held in Melbourne, Australia in 2010. She also is involved with local organizations related to the environment, film, and health and fitness industries.
Anticipating 糖心视频 and Returning to New Zealand
A first-time attendee at the聽糖心视频 Annual Meeting and Conference, Ms. Rogers is looking forward to meeting law librarians from the United States and other countries, and is especially interested to talk to law firm librarians about advancements in technology. On her return she plans to talk about her 糖心视频 experience at the September 2017 NZLLA symposium in Wellington.
Presentation
The FCIL-SIS welcomes all 糖心视频 attendees to her presentation.聽Ms. Rogers鈥� presentation topic is entitled, “I am the River and the River is Me.”聽She describes her topic thus: 鈥淚n 2014 Te Urewera (formerly a national park) was declared a legal entity or person. The legal personality resonates with the T奴hoe (M膩 ori iwi or tribe) view of Te Urewera being an identity in and of itself, rather than a thing that can be owned. Further, the Whanganui River was recognised as ‘Te Awa Tupua’, a legal person with rights and liabilities. New Zealand is the first country in the world to assign a legal identity to natural resources.鈥澛犅�Ms. Rogers鈥� presentation will take place on Monday, July 17, 2017, 4:45 – 5:45 p.m. in the Austin Convention Center (ACC) Room 8C.
